MENU LOCATIONS
There are three admin menu locations in our CWLA site:
- The top menu, also referred to as admin bar: This menu runs across the top of your screen when you’re logged in, whether you’re on the front end of the site or in the dashboard/edit screens. It contains lots of common tasks that give you faster access than going through the WP dashboard, such as adding new users, posts, events, media (like PDF files, photos), etc.
- The left navigation in the WordPress dashboard: The most in-depth menu for all the settings, actions, and functions of your site. When in the WordPress dashboard (courtwatchla.org/wp-admin), it is the menu that runs along the left side of the page. It can be collapsed down to icons only (vs the text I reference), so if you don’t see it, look for the expand icon near the top.
- Page menus: Most functionality of the WordPress site has its own dashboard page, and there are usually tabs or links across the top of the content area of the page for anything with advanced settings.
Events Calendar
We use The Events Calendar plugin for the CWLA site.
Add a New Event
- Click the + or + New dropdown menu in the admin bar that runs across the top of your screen when logged into the site. From the drop menu, choose “EVENT”
- OR – go to the WP Dashboard and click EVENTS > Add New on the left nav
- OR – click the “Add new event” button from your admin dashboard.
- Enter the event title and descriptive text about the event (but not event location details and times) where indicated.
The settings below the main text field are where you’ll enter things like time, venue, organizer information, live maps, and additional options such as ticket prices, etc.Use the eyeballs emoji at the beginning of the event title for CW support requests, and the stack of books emoji for trainings.
- Categories: Events are always categorized as such, but they will only show up in the locations where the calendar is displayed (and the complete post archive page with every category available).. If you want events to show up in other places, such as the poli-ed section or news feed on the homepage, you can add more categories. Here’s where each category displays on site feeds. (chart)
- Adding a featured image is optional, but looks nice on the individual event page. Click the “Add Featured Image” link near the bottom right of the right side of page settings. If you don’t have a unique image, a generic CWLA fallback logo image will be assigned automatically.
- Be sure to click the PUBLISH button near the top right of the editing field when you’re done.
FORMS & SUBMISSIONS
Forms and form submissions can be found near the top of the left navigation from the WP dashboard.
SUBMISSIONS
Go to Forms > Entries to access form submissions. Near the top left of the Entries page, you’ll see a dropdown menu where you can select which form’s entries you want to see. Choose the form from the drop down menu and the page will refresh.
From Forms > Forms, you can also hover over the title of the form and click “Entries” in the popup menu under the name.
EXPORTING SUBMISSIONS
Click here when logged in to go directly to the export page. Choose the Court Watch Session sheet, click “Select All” and enter the date range you want, then click “download the export file.”
The link above can be accessed also by expanding Forms in the left nav of the WordPress dashboard, and clicking “Import/Export.”
Forms
**PLEASE DO NOT EDIT ANY OF THE FORMS**
Edits to forms should be requested of, and approved/executed by La Defensa staff only.
Go to Forms > Forms to access forms, their master settings – such as notifications, title of form, etc. – and edit their content, as well as see the entries associated with that form.
Currently, the following forms are live on our site and collecting entries:
- Cases – the nested form for Session Sheet
- Contact Us
- Court Watch Session Sheet
- Court Watching Support Request
Contact Us – lives on the contact-us page as a general contact form.
Court Watch Session Sheet
This contains the static elements of the Session Sheet, like name, location, and times.
- Cases – nested form for Session Sheet
- This form contains the “repeater” functionality that is nested into the Court Watch Session Sheet form so that users can add more than one case to their upload. It contains the elements that will change depending on the cases they’re seeing
Court Watching Support Request
- This form lives on the /cwsupport page and is for users who would like to request CWers at their court date
